Cold formed parts – considerably cheaper for large series production

Cold formed parts can be recognized by their surface structure. It shows that metal (wire, sheet metal) has been formed into a different shape under the influence of large forces. Products that have been cold-formed therefore have slightly more rounded geometries due to the production process. However, in recent years, manufacturers of multi-stage presses have increasingly worked to minimize possible variations in tolerance. As a result, cold-formed parts can now be produced with almost similar geometric tolerances to turned parts.

Due to the higher tooling and set-up costs, KOHLHAGE Fasteners’ application engineering consultants recommend cold forming as a production method only if large quantities have to be produced.
